Encrypted on our servers before any data leaves the backup worker.
Your backup is encrypted with a per-customer key held in AWS KMS. Our administrators have no technical ability to read your backups or your Rentvine credentials - role-separated IAM policies forbid it.
- End-to-end encryption. Per-customer KEKs in AWS KMS. Backups are encrypted client-side via Restic before any byte hits S3.
- Role separation. Backup workers can decrypt one customer's data at a time. Admin staff cannot decrypt customer keys at all.
- TLS 1.3 only in transit. Internal service-to-service uses mTLS.
- Retention policies built-in. Pause, cancel, or extend at any time - retention math runs through a single audited service.
Frequently asked questions
How does Vinevault access my Rentvine data?
You generate a read-only API key inside Rentvine settings and paste it into our wizard. We test it before saving, then encrypt it with your per-customer KMS key. The plaintext key only ever exists in worker memory for the duration of a single backup run.
What does a backup contain?
Everything Rentvine exposes through their API: residents, properties, units, leases, work orders, transactions, journal entries, vendors, and document attachments. Plus a browsable HTML archive that lets you find a single record without downloading anything.
How long does a backup take?
Depends on your portfolio size. For most operators under 500 doors, a full nightly backup completes in 30–60 minutes. We respect Rentvine rate limits and resume automatically on rate-limit storms.
Can I download a snapshot from six months ago?
Yes. Every snapshot is independently restorable. We store them deduplicated via Restic, so a year of nightly snapshots costs roughly the same as a few full copies.
When does Vinevault leave private beta?
We open new GA enrollments after the beta cohort hits a 90% backup success rate over four consecutive weeks. Founding customers from the beta keep their pricing for life.
